    About us

At “Basics for Birth”, we fundamentally believe that the opportunity exists to offer more antenatal advice and education for prospective parents. On joining the course you will be given practical information and we shall be creating an environment in which you can gain knowledge and understanding. We aim to increase your self-confidence at this life changing time and allow you to make informed choices which can influence the outcome of your labour.

We will passionately support you, as prospective parents, to move through your pregnancy and childbirth experience with excitement, encouraging you to make decisions that are right for you.

Our aim is to take away the apprehension, replacing it with coping skills for you and your birth partner, whilst enlightening you to the new experiences and joy you will undoubtedly face in becoming new parents.

“Basics for Birth” aims to provide practical support and assistance in a structured, relaxed and fun environment. The classes cover various topics to prepare you for the end of your pregnancy, the birth and the early days with your new baby.

Most importantly, “Basics for Birth” is a place to meet other like-minded parents. Everyone attending the course will be first time parents living within the area and their babies will be due at about the same time as yours. These are the same mums and partners who will join you at the babies’ 6 week postnatal check, or at baby clinics, or at your baby’s first immunisation clinic and toddler groups.

Friendships are important for partners too and from these antenatal classes, the relationship can be powerful and life long. These friendships can become the building blocks to a new social life where formal dinner parties are substituted by informal take-aways, some wine and tiny babies at the focal point!
