Welcome to Basics for Birth.

We are 2 experienced midwives with over 30 years experience.
We set up Basics for Birth in early 2008 to offer antenatal classes which include hands-on, practical information for parents-to-be in order to better prepare them for pregnancy, birth and early parenting.
Over the past 30 years we have encountered a multitude of questions, concerns and experiences both before and after the arrival of the new baby.
For example:
- How do I know when labour starts?
- ‘I had no idea about how different the colour of the baby was at birth!’
- What do I want and expect of my birth partner?
- What is a birth plan?
- What changes will happen to me physically and emotionally during the pregnancy?
- Is it harmful to my unborn baby to continue with normal sexual relationships with my partner?
- How do I bath a new born baby?
- How do I get those tiny arms and legs through the holes of a vest or babygro?
- How do I know if my baby is getting enough milk from me?
- ‘I never knew that the new baby’s first ‘poo’ looks like treacle?’
Sounds familiar? This is just a very small selection of questions and comments made by new parents after they have been through the exciting and highly emotional process of pregnancy and giving birth.
At Basics for Birth our aim is to address these and more questions by offering practical ‘nuts and bolts’ advice and activities to you in a relaxed, fun and informal way.
So if your partner wants to know what it is like to feel pregnant and unable to see their toes, then you will certainly enjoy our sessions! Of course, a lot of fun that builds empathy and understanding amongst couples.
Intrigued? Come and join the fun!
